PITTSBURG —

Dear Editor,
In a letter to the editor a week or so ago, Gene Baldwin gave me a gentle gibe by calling me "Campaign Bob." Actually, I sort of like that nickname. He noted that I can detect sleaze in a political campaign rather quickly.
Here is some sleaze by the Rs.
The claim: Many e-mails — they have gotta be done by Republican supporters — claim that Obama is a Muslim.
The truth: He is a Christian, as he has detailed in many places, including his biography.
The claim: That Obama is not a "natural-born citizen," or that he has dual citizenship in Kenya.
The truth: He is a "natural-born citizen,” or he would not be able to run for the presidency. He does not have dual citizenship.
The claim: That Obama’s economic plan would raise taxes.
The truth: Obama’s tax plan would raise taxes only for people who make above $250,000. Taxes would be cut for the middle class. John McCain’s plans cut taxes on the super-wealthy but leave more than half of American families with no benefit.
There are many other examples, but space doesn’t let me include them.
Gene isn't a bad guy — he is a really a prince of a guy. But he and other Republicans haven't yet realized that their party has deserted them. It has become the tool of the very rich and big business.
So, yes, Gene, I am a Democrat — a proud one. And I will continue to fight sleaze wherever I find it.
