MULBERRY —

Dear Editor,
I have enjoyed the editorial about Girard Medical Center. They could use more recognition. As charge nurse at the Heritage Nursing Home, they are our main hospital and we use them quite frequently and we are very happy with the care of our residents.
I am a Mulberry resident and would only go to Girard about once a year to renew my tags until I started working at the Heritage four years ago. Girard is really a clean nice little town and often overlooked since most people shop in Pittsburg out of habit. Girard really is an impressive little town with its own hospital, grocery stores, many dining places and not to mention being very important to Crawford County with the court house and police station being located there.
There is another treasure tucked away in Girard that more people should know about. The Heritage Nursing Home was founded in 1967 by John and Wilma Twarog and is a real jewel. At 85, John Twarog Sr., known to us as Sr., is still the administrator and his sons David and John Jr. help him to run the place. David became the DON at age 20 and has had that position for 33 years. That is very unusual to have such continuity for nursing care at a nursing home or any nursing facility. John Jr. manages the financial side of the nursing home and does a great job. He also is supervisor over everything else but the nursing department which David prizes.
If you would like to give your loved one 24-hour care by professionals, please talk to our boss, David Twarog, who is over the nursing staff. You get quality care in a small town atmosphere and David has the best staffing ratio around. We have had the least number of deficiencies in Crawford County the last five years in a row. That is something to really brag about in this day and age when so many nursing homes are getting fined for not being compliant. But of course, all of the Twarogs are not the kind to brag so I can’t help but do it for them. I have never worked at a place before that had three great bosses, SR., Junior and David. David has even told me he loves his residents. How is that for great care from a family owned business? No other nursing center around can compare.
