CHEROKEE —

Dear Editor,

Little league season is over and many deserve great thanks.
Yet there is an unrecognized army, always growing in ranks.
We dedicate hours each season to accomplish our unnoticed task.
“Who are these undaunted soldiers?” We thought you’d never ask.
We are mothers of sons in white pants, sharing a common link.
We conquer red dirt, green grass, and rainbow of snow cones and drinks.
Our weapons of choice are many, from the car wash to Cascade.
We share a common woe ... no stock in Gatorade!
Still, we persevere, knowing history will repeat.
Again we’ll be at the washer, spraying the knees and the seat.
Maybe we’ll remember next year, when the coach calls in May.
“Hey coach, I think those jerseys sure would look good with gray!”
