Things we would like to see this week

• Good turnout for local Independence Day events. The Farlington Lake show is set for Thursday, Girard’s show will be Friday and Pittsburg’s show is Saturday.

• Highway safety. As with every holiday, the roads will be busier than normal this weekend. Please be aware of the motorists around you, and do not drink and drive.

• Fort Scott have a successful Riverfront Festival. The festival will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at Riverfront on North National.

• Fireworks safety. Please be mindful of your safety and the safety of those with you.

• A good start for Pittsburg State president for Dr. Steve Scott, who officially takes the helm Wednesday.
