• people clean up their mess from the fireworks. The Fourth of July was three days ago. There is no reason debris should still be littering local streets.

• good crowds for the Don Gutteridge League tournament which started Monday and continues through Thursday at JayCee Ballpark.

• good crowds for a Westar rate consolidation hearing Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Memorial Auditorium.

• watch out for high temperatures expected this week and weekend. Keep an eye on your neighbors, especially the elderly and those without air conditioning.

• A decision  from Pittsburg State president Dr. Steve Scott, on official plans about what to do with nearly $700,000 in stimulus money directed toward tuition mitigation. Given the tuition hikes this fall, there is a great need for relief.
