PITTSBURG —

Dear Editor,
I am a cat owner and I am siding, in  part, with the cat trappers. My own pet is not allowed to roam loose. She has a screened in porch and she goes outside with me on a leash. Yes, it is possible. Cats are quite trainable if you quit thinking of them as wild animals that have to roam and hunt to be happy. I, too, have a problem with strays and loose pets (cats and dogs) in the vicinity including dog owners who walk their dogs by my flower beds and allow them to relieve themselves in them. It's time for all pet owners (like parents) to be responsible for the welfare of their little companions and quit inflicting them on others.
None of this is the animal's fault. Pets just do what they do. It's the owner's fault, so if you must trap an animal, take it to the animal shelter and don't just dump it out in the country to fend for itself.
