NASCAR fans know a thing or two about speed and adrenaline.  So does the Red Cross.  That’s why this summer I am thrilled to announce that these two great organizations have teamed up to help promote the ongoing need for blood donations.  During the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, Red Cross blood donors can participate in an exciting new partnership with 3M Corporation, Rouse Fenway Racing and #16 driver Greg Biffle
Thanks to a generous donation from 3M, the Red Cross will have a strong presence at nine Sprint Cup races.  The Red Cross logo will appear on a full paint scheme at two races and will be included on the #16 car at an additional seven races.  Greg Biffle will also wear a Red Cross-branded fire suit.
Every day more than 38,000 people in this country need blood donations to help treat everything from planned surgeries to car accidents.  At the same time, blood donations are leveling off because fewer are able to give.  NASCAR fans can join Biffle, who is also a blood donor, in helping to save lives.  Red Cross hopes the more than 75 million passionate NASCAR fans will become loyal Red Cross blood donors like Greg Biffle.
Race to your local blood drive on August 13 (1:00 – 6:30 p.m.) and August 14 (8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) at the Countryside Christian Church in Pittsburg.  Call 1-800-GIVE LIFE
(1-800-448-3543) to schedule an appointment.  Walk-ins are also welcome.  Please bring your donor card or photo ID.  ALL WHO RACE IN TO DONATE WILL RECEIVE A NASCAR LANYARD!!!!!
The Red Cross is also launching a new Web site, www.redcrossracing.com, where race fans can sign up and earn points every time they participate in a blood drive.  Points are redeemable for Red Cross Racing branded items, including caps, T-shirts, leather racing jackets and limited edition die-cast cars.  All online participants will also be eligible to win an all-expense-paid trip for two to the Checker Auto Parts 400 at Phoenix International Speedway on November 9, 2008.  The prize package includes airfare, hotel and two race tickets.
