SPORTS ROUNDUP: Panthers sweep pair of games against Lancers

The St. Mary’s Colgan Panthers swept a pair of Crawford-Neosho-Cherokee League games Tuesday from the Southeast Lancers at St. Mary’s Colgan Fieldhouse. The boys won 61-41 and the girls won 38-31.

The Colgan boys have put their struggles in the odd-numbered quarters long past them, outscoring Southeast 19-6 in the first and 16-7 in the third.

Colgan junior post Dyson Dechant scored a game-high 21 points and senior forward Zach Smith added 10 points; Dechant and Smith have been a dangerous inside combination in three league games. Luke Marquardt added eight points and Christian Smith had six.

Aaron Lake paced Southeast with 12 and three players scored eight points apiece — Surgio Ascanio, Daniel Peak and Josh Thompson.

The Colgan boys (10-3, 3-0 CNC) play their next game against Baxter Springs on the road next Tuesday.
The Colgan girls (8-4, 2-1 CNC) recovered from a loss against Girard last Friday and dealt Southeast (9-6, 0-3 CNC) its fourth straight loss overall and third straight in CNC games.

Taylor Bolinger led Colgan with 16 points, nine scored on 3-pointers, and freshman point guard Alex Minton added nine points.

The Colgan girls play the formidable Bulldogs of Liberal at home on Thursday.

Frontenac splits with Riverton

The Frontenac girls rolled to their 13th win of the season with a 58-41 win over the Rams and the Riverton boys won their 14th game in as many tries with a 50-35 win over the Raiders.
Ryleigh McCartney and Libby Warrick scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Raiders (13-1, 2-0 CNC). Frontenac enjoyed a 23-14 lead after one and 38-21 halftime lead, overcoming 22 points by Taylor Price of Riverton.

The Frontenac boys struggled in the first three quarters — scoring four, five and six points in progression — and Riverton had a 26-15 lead after three in a rematch of the Lancer Classic title game.
Dylan Weaver led all scorers with 14 points and Greyson Spriggs and Landon North each had 13 for the undefeated Rams. Frontenac point guard Avery Coronado scored a team-high 11 points, nine on 3-point shots.

Frontenac hosts Northeast on Friday for a nonleague doubleheader between former CNC League rivals.
The Northeast boys (11-3 overall) defeated Oswego 41-34 on Tuesday, extending its perfect Three Rivers League record to 5-0.
