The Frontenac boys won in thrilling fashion at home Friday night over the Riverton Rams, 52-50, and remained undefeated in the Crawford-Neosho-Cherokee League.

Late in the contest, Frontenac senior Blake Barto took a player control foul on Riverton’s Chandler Underhill and with 6.6 seconds remaining, after Barto took his charge, Frontenac called a timeout and set up a press break. Brett Macary, who made a memorable game-winning shot last year against Northeast at home, came through again in the clutch against the Rams.

Frontenac gained a 34-20 halftime lead, due to shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from 3-point range. Both teams combined for 15 made 3-pointers, eight for Frontenac and seven for Riverton.

Avery Coronado led Frontenac with 16 points and Macary added 10. Dylan Weaver led Riverton with 16 points and Landon North added 13.

Frontenac improved to 10-5, 3-0 in the CNC. The Raiders now embark on a four-game road stretch, beginning Tuesday against Columbus.

In the girls contest, Frontenac proved too much for Riverton, taking a 15-2 first quarter lead en route to a 49-16 win. The Rams scored no more than six points in any quarter against the tough Raider defense.

Haley Wilson and Libby Warrick finished with seven points apiece and Amanda Cicero, Jennifer Long and Ryleigh McCartney each added six points.

Frontenac improved to 13-2, 3-0 and face Columbus on Tuesday.
