Viking boys defeat ranked team

COLONY — The Northeast Viking boys defeated the Crest Lancers 48-36 in a battle of Three Rivers League frontrunners Tuesday evening.

"Kids played a great game in a tough environment against a good team," Northeast head coach Matt Hiatt said. "We competed and held our composure for four quarters. Everyone we put on the court played well."

Northeast received a game-high 17 points from senior forward Chase Cleland and 10 points from sophomore guard J.T. Richardson. Jon Baker and Cody McCloud contributed eight and six points, respectively.

The Vikings held Class 1A state-ranked Crest (No. 9 in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll) to nine points scored per quarter. Northeast built on its lead with a 17-9 fourth quarter advantage, dealing Crest its first loss in Three Rivers play.

Northeast (9-3, 3-0 TRL) plays St. Paul on Friday.
