Northeast freshman guard Jaycie Polhlopek established a career high in points for the third consecutive game Tuesday night, helping Northeast win a double overtime thriller over Marmaton Valley, 52-48.
“This was an amazing game,” Northeast head coach Scott Post said. “It had a little bit of everything. Marmaton did a great job and we were fortunate to keep coming back when we were down. We were down by five in the first overtime with only 2 minutes remaining.”
Polhlopek, hampered by foul trouble for at least two quarters of the game, took a pass from Kaylee Bogina and forced overtime with a 3 as time expired in regulation. Polhlopek made three 3s Tuesday night and her point total her last three games equals 48 (Oswego 14, Jayhawk-Linn 15, Marmaton Valley 19).
Senior guard Gretchen Mills scored 10 points and played what Coach Post called “her best game of the season.” Bogina made seven of her nine points in the game on free throws in the second overtime. Morgan Maransani and Jazmin Nunn added six and four points, respectively.
Northeast improved to 6-12, 3-4 in the Three Rivers League.
The Northeast boys lost 42-40 Tuesday night to Marmaton Valley, the Vikings unable to hold onto a six-point lead entering the fourth quarter.
