PHS girls leading tennis tourney

The Pittsburg High tennis team leads the Labette County Varsity Invitational Tennis Tournament by one point in Parsons.

The Dragons have three players that have gone 3-0 throughout the duration of the tournament.

Singles players Chapril Stewart and Ashton Born are both 3-0 as is the No. 2 doubles team of Rashelle Hall and Robin Brummitt.

Stewart defeated Katie Anderson of Fort Scott, 8-2; Jordan Hayes of Coffeyville, 8-0; and Jessica Tucker of Chanute, 8-4.

Born defeated Courtney Crain of Fort Scott, 8-2; Tayita Abudu of Coffeyville, 8-0; and Breianna Brooks of Chanute, 8-0.

On the doubles side, Hall and Brummitt defeated Kalia Dancy and Heather Hobbs of Fort Scott, 8-2; Rachelle Gillman and Haley Smith of Coffeyville; 8-5; and Jeanna Lawrence and Ashely Parrett of Chanute, 8-6.

KaCey Sinclair and Sammie Highfield at No. 1 doubles are 0-2 on the day. They fell to Michelle Buntain and Corina Harrison of Fort Scott, 8-3; and Erin Holeman and Katie Honas, 8-5.

Pittsburg leads the night with nine points while Fort Scott and Labette County are tied for second with eight wins. Chanute and Coffeyville are tied for third with two points.

Play will resume on Wednesday.
