Goals were contagious Thursday for the Pittsburg High soccer team (2-3) during a 10-0 win over Thomas Jefferson.
Danilo Pinheiro scored goals No. 9, No. 10 and No. 11 on the season and notched his third hat trick with a team-high three goals against TJ and Sullivan Lauderdale, Jose Ayala, Moira Myers, Emmanuel Gonzalez, Lukas McConnell, Kersee Cumiskey and Gershom Avalos each added single goals for the Dragon attack. McConnell scored a goal on his birthday.
HS volleyball
Pittsburg JV split its Thursday night matches with Iola 2-0 (25-17, 26-24) and Independence 2-1 (18-25, 25-20, 8-15), winning against Iola.
Camille Kent and Chelsea Baker each led with four kills against Iola and Mattson Steele had eight assists. Baker led Pittsburg with five kills against Independence and Steele distributed seven assists.
Pittsburg moves to 3-4 on the season and plays today in a tournament hosted by Independence.
MS volleyball
Pittsburg Community Middle School split four matches with Chanute on Thursday — 8A lost 2-0 (15-25, 16-25), 8B won 2-0 (25-23, 25-9), 7A won 2-0 (25-2, 26-24) and 7B lost 2-0 (10-25, 8-25).
Logan Lord paced 8A with five points and Taylor Muff and Hannah Sopata each added three points. Sopata and Malayna Brown each scored seven for 8B in their win. Abigail Casper sparked 7A with 11 points, including 10 in a row during Set 1, and Myla Turner added seven, while Madison Vogel and McKenzie Wilks each chipped in six points. Five players scored a point apiece for 7B.
