Pittsburg soccer won its first-ever varsity match on Independence soil Tuesday night, defeating the traditional Southeast Kansas League soccer power 5-3.
Danilo Pinheiro led the history-making Dragon attack with two goals and Emmanuel Gonzalez, Jose Ayala and Lukas McConnell rounded out the PHS goal scoring.
Pittsburg made it a clean sweep in the JV match with a 3-1 win, goals scored by Robert Bustamante, Diego Luna and McConnell.
The Purple Dragons improve to 3-3 in varsity and play a varsity-JV doubleheader Thursday night at home against Carl Junction, Mo.
