OWASSO, Okla. — Pittsburg wrestling finished the two-day Owasso Ram Duals with a 5-2 record, sweeping all three Saturday matches.

PHS earned started out with a 2-2 record on Friday, defeating Bartelsville 52-18 and Bentonville 51-28 before falling to Collinsville 46-36 and Comanche 40-26. The Purple Dragons closed the dual tournament with wins over Owasso, 54-23, Deer Creek, 45-30, and Mustang, 42-34.

“The competition in Oklahoma is always tough, and it was nice to watch the boys grow throughout the two-day event,” Pittsburg head coach Scott Rieck said. “These are the types of competitions that will mold a team into one unit. For us to win state, they must wrestle for each other. This dual tournament does that for us.”

A.J. Lair, 138 pounds, Deveron Duncan, 220 pounds, and Kayne Hutchison, 285 pounds, went undefeated over the span of the two-day tournament.

Other impressive performances from the Purple Dragons included Wes Jameson, 152 pounds, and Dylan Prince, 195 pounds, each going 6-1 in the event.


Frontenac wrestling earned a third-place team finish at the Paola invitational over the weekend.

The Raiders finished with 155 points as a unit, coming in behind Lawrence Free State at 209 and Basehor Linwood at 157.

Frontenac’s Riley McDaniel, 120 pounds, and Brandon Mlekus, 160 pounds, each earned first-place finishes for the Raiders in their respective classes.

Nathan Kaufman finished the tournament in second place at 195 pounds, as did Andrew Mays at 170 pounds.

Brenden Ishimura (138 pounds) took third place, with Mason Jameson (132 pounds), Jordan Ishimura (152 pounds) and Peyton Houston (285 pounds) all earned top-five marks with finishes in fourth place.
