PITTSBURG — MPIX made quick work of Jim Radell Construction on Tuesday, as the Stormchasers won 12-2 via run rule in the fourth inning.
After jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead, the Stormchasers struck for five runs in the third inning before driving in a three runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 10 and enforce the run rule.
“Everybody hit the ball up and down the lineup today and that’s big,” MPIX assistant coach Will Norton said. “I thought we fielded the ball well on defense and that’s big too. I hope we continue hitting the ball like that. We’re 4-4 now and hopefully we can hit the ball like we did tonight in tomorrow's game and carry that momentum on through the end of the season.”
Brady Badart set the table with a leadoff single and advanced into scoring position after back-to-back walks drawn by Connor Proffitt and Anthony Schremmer in the opening inning.
David Mendez drew a walk in the following at-bat, before coming around to score behind Badart, Proffitt and Schremmer on defensive miscues to go up 4-0.
Following a walk drawn by Jaxx Erwin, Nuts pitcher Blake Wilkes bounced back from a rocky start to notch three consecutive strikeouts to end the inning.
The Nuts responded with a pair of runs in the second inning to cut the deficit in half at 4-2.
Braxton Horner sparked the Nuts’ offense with a leadoff double and moved up to third on a single by Stone Peery.
Kaden O’Bray and Sean Stoner drove in both runs in the next two at-bats.
MPIX regained momentum in the third frame, crossing the plate five times to increase the lead to 9-2.
The inning was highlighted by a two-run double to left field by Schremmer and included a pair of RBI singles from Courtland Jones and Paxton Listwan.
After a scoreless top half of the fourth inning, the Stormchasers scored three runs in the bottom half to go up by 10 and end the game early.
Badart came around to score his third run of the game on an error after hitting a one-out single. Mendez drove in Schremmer with an infield single and came in to score on a triple by Erwin.

Schremmer was a big part of the win, driving in three runs with one hit, two walks and three runs scored.
Badart was also seeing the ball well, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Horner and Peery were the offensive catalysts, each with a hit and a run apiece.
MPIX will matchup against Unique Metal at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday on Ted Carnino Field.
