PITTSBURG — A quality outing by the Pittsburg High School girls’ tennis team saw the Purple Dragons take care of business at home, as they placed second in a field of eight teams with a team score of 36 points.
PHS was led by the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams, as both duos placed first overall.
The No. 1 doubles teams consisting of Maddie Baden and Madison Vogel, were named champions with wins over Iola (8-1), Bishop Miege (8-1), Columbus (8-0) and Blue Valley Southwest (8-1).
The Purple Dragons also received a first-place finish from the No. 2 doubles team consisting of Alexis Pichler and Kamryn Kelley, as they defeated Iola (8-5), Miege (8-1), Columbus (8-1) and Blue Valley (8-2).
No. 1 singles player Nicole Konopelko took third with wins over Iola (8-2), Labette (8-7 (7)) and Columbus (8-1) and a loss to Miege (8-4).
The No. 2 singles player Rylee Johnson also placed third, topping Iola (8-5), Columbus (8-0) and Labette (8-1) and losing to Miege (8-0).
