LAWRENCE — A late rally by the Pittsburg State women’s basketball team came up short, as the Gorillas lost 57-50 against Kansas on Sunday inside Allen Fieldhouse.

Pitt State was within five points of KU at halftime, but the Jayhawks pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring the Gorillas 16-6 en route to sealing the win in the fourth.

The Gorillas trailed by as many as 12 points in the second quarter, before cutting the deficit to one on the strength of a 10-0 run.

KU increased the lead to 15 by the end of the third quarter, but PSU narrowed the gap to six with an 11-2 run.

The Jayhawks went on to build the lead back up to double digits and kept the Gorillas at bay in the final minutes to hang on for the win.

Brenlee McPherson led the way for the Gorillas with 14 points and one assist.

Mikaela Burgess and Madison Northcutt also scored in double digits, pouring in 11 and 10 points apiece.

UP NEXT

Pitt State will head to Kansas City to compete in the MIAA/NSIC Conference Challenge, with the first game scheduled for noon on Friday against Concordia-St. Paul.
