PITTSBURG — Runs came early and often in the Pittsburg State baseball team’s 17-12 win over Washburn on Friday at Al Ortolani Field.
The Gorillas hit the scoreboard in each of the first six innings, scoring eight runs in the first five frames before posting nine in the sixth to take a 17-11 lead.
The sixth frame was highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Hunter Clanin and included a pair of RBI doubles from Brock Zanca and Andrew Vogelbaugh.
The Gorillas went on to hold the Ichabods to one run in the final three innings to earn the win.
Hunter Clanin had a game to remember, as he drove in four runs on four hits with three runs scored.
Joven Afenir also tallied four hits with three RBIs and a run scored.
Conner Davis earned his second win on the mound, with one strikeout in one scoreless inning.
The Gorillas will play the rubber match at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
