Pitt State starter Brendan Stanek fanned eight batters and gave up one run on five hits in his complete-game effort to lift the Gorillas to a 7-1 win in the rubber match.

“The dominance of Brendan Stanek on the mound was the key for us today” PSU head coach Tom Myers said. “He pitched through adversity and we did enough offensively to keep him out there if he got in a jam.”

“I felt great out there on the mound today.” Stanek said. I knew the team had my back in field and on offense, and they gave me plenty run support which allowed me to focus on making my pitches.”

After plating one run in the first frame on a sacrifice fly by Josh Whisler, the Gorillas struck for three runs in the third to take a 4-1 advantage.

The inning was highlighted by a pair of RBI singles from Dallas Reed and Clanin, and included a sacrifice fly by Vogelbaugh.

Pitt State went on to tack on two more insurance runs in the fourth, on the strength of a two-run single by Reed, and one more in the seventh on an RBI single by Clanin in the seventh.

Afenir led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Reece Garvie drove in two runs on two hits with two walks and a run scored.
