COLUMBUS — The Girard Boys’ Baseball team put on a dominate performance in the Trojan’s doubleheader against Columbus on Monday, shutting out the Titans 13-0 in game one and following with an 11-3 win in the nightcap.

Game one Girard 13, Columbus 0

Dillon Collins allowed only two hits in five shutout innings. Ethan Goff paced the offense with two hits and three RBIs.

The Trojans scored in four of the first five innings, including four runs in the third and fourth. Girard out hit Columbus, 11-2 and committed less errors, 5-1.

An error in the first frame brought home Ty Norris for the first run of the game. Evan Troike drew a walk in the next at-bat, making the score 2-0.

After consecutive one-out singles by Wade Boatman and Connor Dillon, Troike hit a ground ball single to right field, scoring Boatman. An error and a passed ball brought home two more runs in the inning, extending the lead to 6-0.

Boatman scored again on an error in the fourth, which was followed by Norris drawing a bases loaded walk to bring home Caden Lallemand to continue to add to the lead. Goff would hit a single to left field, bringing home two runs, giving the Trojans a 13-0 advantage.

Girard would chip in three more runs in the fifth, then force a three-and-out bottom frame to secure the win.

Matt Sabine went 3-for-5 with one RBI for the Trojans. Boatman and Lallemand added in two hits each.

Troike and Cuthbertson had two RBIs apiece. Norris, Boatman, Troike and Cuthbertson had two walks each in the game.

Game two Girard 11, Columbus 3

The Titans held a slim 3-1 lead after four frames, but Girard scored 10 runs in the last three innings to take the win late.

The Trojans tied the score at 3-3 in the fifth. Sabine singled home Lallemand and Goff hit a line drive to center field to bring home pitch runner Taylor Bruning.

In the sixth inning Bruning’s sacrifice fly would bring home Lallemand to start their four-run inning. Troike would score on a passed ball and Sabine would cross home plate on an error to give Girard a 6-3 lead.

Goff doubled home Norris at the end of the inning to add to the cushion.

Girard scored four runs in the seventh.

Starting pitcher Brendan Schmidt allowed four hits and three runs in four frames. Goff earned the win in relief after striking out three in three shutout innings.

The Lady Trojans snatched 8-0 and 15-1 victories in the softball doubleheader.
