GIRARD — The Pittsburg Purple Dragon Girls’ Track team grabbed first place in the Women’s team ranking in Saturday’s Girard Optimist Track and Field Meet. The Purple Dragons led the way with 125 points. Girard came in fifth place with 53 points, St. Mary’s-Colgan slotted in at seven with 45 points and Frontenac came in eighth with 42.
The Purple Dragons Boys came in second, behind Carthage, in the Men’s team ranking, scoring 83 points. Colgan’s 58 points was good for fifth place, Girard came in right behind the Panthers at sixth with 52 points, and Frontenac came in eighth place with 27.
Pittsburg finished with eight wins. Faith Turner won three events, the Long Jump, Triple Jump, and 100 Meter Dash. McKenzie Wilks came in first in the 800m Run and 1600m Run. Laken Robinson came in first place in the High Jump, and teammate Vanessa Yaghmour took first in the Pole Vault.
Girard’s Rachel Stephans took first prize in the 200m Dash and 300m Hurdles.
Frontenac’s Lauren Harper grabbed first in the Shot Put.
The Purple Dragons also won the 1x1600m Relay. St. Mary’s-Colgan won the 4x800m Relay.
In the boys events, Pittsburg’s Dylan Jordan won the 200m Dash and teammate Andres Arriola took first in the 800m Run. The Purple Dragons also took first in the 4x800m Relay.
Colgan’s Kash Marietta came in first in the 300m Hurdles. Teammate Max Wilson won the Javelin Throw.
