RIVERTON — After struggling to bring in runs against Fort Scott over the weekend, the Frontenac Raiders Softball offense ignited against St. Mary’s-Colgan on Monday at Riverton’s baseball tournament, leading them to a 11-5 victory.

Frontenac struck first in the top of the first frame, on Morgen Hipfl’s two-run RBI double to center field, scoring leadoff batter Madison Davis and Karma Fields.

Colgan cut into the deficit in their half of the inning. Kaitlin Crossland led off the lineup with a single, and Taylor Wixson drove her in to make the score 2-1.

Fields and Taylor Peterson added to the lead in the second, hitting consecutive RBI doubles, to extend the lead to 5-1.

The Panthers scored one run again in the second, courtesy of Malia Orender’s sacrifice fly to bring in Ella Battatori.

After Crossland shutout the Raiders in the top of the third, Colgan had their largest frame of the game in their half of the inning. Crossland opened the inning off with a double, before crossing the plate on Olivia Brynd’s sacrifice fly. Delaney Cedeno continued the trend for the Panthers, hitting a sacrifice fly to right field to score Sophia Piccini. Battatori tied the score at 5-5 with an RBI double.

The lead was short lived for Colgan, with Frontenac scoring twice in the fourth with bases loaded walks.

Frontenac would add a run in the fifth and three in the seventh to insure the win.
