PITTSBURG — The Kansas Teachers’ Community Credit Union Dodgers captured the J.L. Hutchinson Dick Web Coach Pitch Championship by topping the Cedar Creek Yankees in walkoff fashion, 8-7 on Wednesday.

Braven Smithhisler was the hero for the Dodgers, hitting the game winning RBI.

“It's a great feeling to see how much the team has improved from game one to game 14,” said Dodger coach Eric Schiefelbein. “To be able to win this league with the number of competitive teams out there is awesome for the players.”

Max Imhof, Wyatt Thomas and Jeremiah Lattimer hit doubles in the game for the Dodgers.

“I was scared during the game but it was a great feeling to win the championship” said Imhof, who was named league MVP.

The Dodgers found themselves behind after four frames, but the Dodgers did not lose their composure.

“During every game this season we get together between innings and say ‘this is the one where we hit six runs’, said Schiefelbein.

“We were down most of the game but our mentality never wavered, and we did a good job staying in the game to set up Braven’s big hit.”

After the game Yankee coach Kevin Deao was proud of his team’s effort.

“I told them to keep their heads up. The Dodgers only loss one game this season, and in four games combined they beat us by a total of five runs,” said Deao.

“We gave 100 percent effort during the game and I’m proud of the way we competed today and all season.” added Deao.

Camden Deao hit a double for the Yankees.

In the consolation game the Community National Bank Orioles beat the Comeau Jewelry Braves 11-8. Frankie Stroud hit a home run in the game.
