Seniors Tim Testa and M.J. Hassaballa placed 12th and 13th among scored runners to lead Pittsburg State University to a second-place finish at the Missouri Southern State University Stampede Saturday (Sept. 19).
The Gorillas finished with 131 points in a crowded 35-team field, which featured 359 individual runners, in the 8-kilometer race. The University of Arkansas won the meet with 48 points.
Testa crossed the finish line in 24 minutes, 31.14 seconds to finish 16th overall and 12th among scored runners. Hassaballa came in 17th place (13th scored) in 24:34.43.
Harding University's Daniel Kirwa won the meet in 23:11.07.
For the Gorillas, Adam Volkert placed 25th (31st overall) in 24:58.51, Cliff Miles placed 39th (50th overall) in 25:19.73 and Matt Haffner finished 42nd (54th overall) in 25:25.30.
Women fourth
The Pittsburg State University women's cross country team turned in a solid effort, finishing fourth overall at the Missouri Southern State University Stampede Saturday.
Junior Jennifer Butler led the Gorillas, who finished with 154 points in the 41-team field in the five-kilometer race. Butler placed 20th overall, 19th among scored runners, in 18 minutes, 22:96 seconds.
The University of Arkansas won the meet with a low 23 points. The host school, MSSU, finished second (45 pts.) while Dallas Baptist University placed third (136 pts.).
Aransas's Miranda Walker won the meet in 17:23.64.
For PSU, Brittney Graff placed 22nd (23rd overall) in 18;26.88, Melissa Peden finished 29th (31st overall) in 18:43.27, Erin Beck placed 32nd (34th overall) in 18:45.64 and Caitlin Laskowski finished 52nd (55th overall) in 17:23.64.
