McConnell loses out for arena award

Former Pittsburg State University football player Aaron McConnell and Central Missouri player Colston Weatherington were in competition for 2008 Arena Football League Lineman of the year.
Weatherington, a current defensive lineman for the Dallas Desperados won the honor as voted by the league's head coaches, fans, players and the AFL Writers Association last week.
Weatherington, who earned All-Arena First Team honors last week for the third consecutive season, becomes the first player voted Lineman of the Year twice in three years after leading the AFL in sacks (10.5) and ranking second in tackles for loss (11.0). He won the award in 2006.
McConnell, who plays for the Colorado Crush, joined Weatherington on the All-Arena First Team.
Weatherington also recorded 24.0 tackles, six passes defensed, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one safety and one blocked kick.
Other candidates included: New York defensive lineman Henry Taylor and Philadelphia offensive lineman Phil Bogle.
