The Southeast Kansas League announced its All-League Football Team and the Pittsburg Purple Dragons earned 15 selections (eight first team, three second team and four honorable mention).
Pittsburg seniors Spencer Bernhardt and Zack Woods proved double trouble: two first team selections for each player, Bernhardt at defensive back and punter, Woods at wide receiver and linebacker. Bernhardt added a second team selection at quarterback.
Bernhardt rushed for 515 yards and nine TDs, averaging 6.2 yards per carry, and passed for 961 yards and eight TDs on 42-73 attempts. He averaged 39.9 yards on 14 punts. Bernhardt made 19 tackles (14 solo, 5 assist) and recorded two interceptions; opponents generally passed opposite No. 11.
Woods caught 20 passes for 630 yards, averaging 31.5 yards per catch. On defense, Woods made 48 stops (33 solo, 15 assist) and had 2.0 sacks, one interception, one pass deflection and one pass breakup.
Sophomore offensive-defensive lineman Drake Markley made All-SEK first team on both sides of the ball during his first year playing varsity football. Markley led Pittsburg with 26.5 pancake blocks.
Senior offensive lineman Dakota Taylor and his 24.5 pancakes joined Markley on the first team.
Sophomore running back-linebacker-return man Alex Barnes made first team at running back and honorable mention at both linebacker and returner. No. 34 led Pittsburg with 18 TDs and 112 total points. He gained over 1,100 rushing yards (1,126), averaging 8.8 yards per carry. Barnes added in 62 receiving and 364 return yards for a grand total of 1,552 all-purpose yards. Defensively, Barnes led Pittsburg with 70 tackles (52 solo, 18 assist) and four interceptions, as well as two pass breakups and two deflections.
Senior running back-linebacker Anthony McNeely earned second team linebacker (57 tackles and one fumble recovery) and honorable mention running back (358 yards and four TDs on 76 carries), senior Nick Vacca second team linebacker and senior Chris Huyett honorable mention offensive lineman. Pittsburg finished second in the SEK with a 5-1 league record.
SEK League rushing leader Wesley Collins made first team, as the Coffeyville senior gained 1,371 yards and scored 19 TDs on 175 carries. First team linebacker Elijah Jones recorded 156 tackles for the Golden Tornado.
