FOOTBALL
Program
n Sign-ups are now being taken for the Pittsburg State Beacher Creature program. The program is sponsored by the Pittsburg Family YMCA. The Beacher Creature program is open to boys and girls ages 5-12. Participants will receive free admission to all PSU home football games, a T-shirt and participate in other activities during the game. Participation fee is $15. The first PSU home football game is Sept. 13. Those interested should sign up at the Pittsburg Family YMCA prior to Sept. 13. For additional information, call the YMCA.
Leagues
n Frontenac Youth Football will be taking sign ups for third through sixth-grade tackle football and first and second grade flag football. Sign ups will be available Saturday, Aug. 2 at 8:30 a.m. at the Frontenac Town Hall, 200 E. McKay. Players must attend Frontenac schools to participate in the programs. Cost for tackle football is $40 and the cost for flag football is $30. For more information, call Toby Book at 232-1726 or Kevin Seward at 231-1044 or www.frontenacyouthfootball.com.
n Pittsburg YMCA football pro gram will begin practice the week of Aug. 20. Sign-ups are now being taken and all participants should be signed up by Aug. 18. The program is divided into flag and tackle. Flag has two leagues, one is for first and second grades and one is for third and fourth grades. Tackle is for grades 4-6. Fourth and fifth graders will play in a league together and sixth graders will play in a separate league. Some fifth graders may be moved up to the sixth grade league. All teams have a maximum number of participants, so sign up early. Volunteer coaches are needed. On Aug. 18 at 5:30 p.m., a meeting will be held for fourth and fifth grade tackle players to evaluate and divide teams on an equal basis. On Aug. 19, at 5:30 p.m., a similar meeting will be held for the sixth grade program. For further information, contact Sara Mitchell at the Pittsburg Family YMCA.
n The Pittsburg Family YMCA will begin a girls flag football league on Sept. 6. There will be two leagues, one for fourth-sixth graders and another for seventh and eighth graders. Any player in the Southeast Athletic Conference (Arma, Fort Scott, Frontenac and Girard) may participate in this fundamental non-contact camp. Cost is $20 per player and includes a T-shirt. Early registration is suggested. Camp dates are Aug. 4-6 from 6-7:30 p.m. each day at the Frontenac Sports Complex. Sign ups will be taken Saturday Aug. 2 at the Frontenac Town Hall, 200 E. McKay. SOCCER
League
n The Pittsburg Family YMCA will have a fall soccer league for boys and girls in grades 1-6. There will be two leagues, one for 1-3 grades and one for 4-6 grades. There will be six games played beginning Sept. 6. Both leagues will be eight on eight, and the 1-3 grade league will be on a smaller field. Those interested should be signed up before Aug. 18. n The Pittsburg Family YMCA will begin an indoor soccer program on Sept. 13. The program is for boys and girls 4- and 5- years of age. Games will be played on Saturday mornings at the YMCA. The first Saturday will include an introductory clinic to go over basic skills and to review the rules of indoor soccer. Only 30 participants will be accepted. Those interested should sign up at the YMCA by Sept. 3.

POOL
Tournaments
n Weekly tournaments at Weir American Legion Post 272. Entry fee $5 with 100 percent payback. Play begins at 1 p.m. on Sundays. Contact 396-8400.
n Tournaments at SunDowner Sports Bar & Grill, south edge of Girard, on the first and third Saturday of each month, starting at 8 p.m. Entry fee: $10. Call 724-6204 or 724-4113.
n Tournaments at Idle-A-While in Cherokee each Wednesday at 8 p.m. Entry fee is $5 with all fees going to winners. First-, second- and third-place all pay.

WRESTLING
Camps
n The Pittsburg High School wrestling team will host a wrestling camp on Aug. 10 at the Megan Mallatt Activity Center wrestling room at Pittsburg High School. PHS wrestling coach Scott Rieck will be joined by Austin DeVoe, assistant coach at Northern Colorado, Daniel Peterson, former wrestler at Tennessee-Chatanooga and Eric Akin, former assistant coach at the University of Nebraska to teach folk style and freestyle wrestling. Camp runs from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. and the cost to participate is $5 per session. Contact Rieck at 704-1969 or srieck@usd250.org.

GOLF
Tournaments
n Aug. 23 — Pittsburg Elks Lodge No. 412 Annual Fall Golf Classic. A 3-person scramble held at Countryside Golf Course beginning at 8 a.m.. Fees are $40 per person and includes a cart or $35 per person if player provides a cart. For more information, call Countryside Golf Course at 232-3654 or the Pittsburg Elks Lodge at 232-1460.
Lessons
n The Elks and Countryside Golf Course are offering free lessons and training to students in Crawford County age 11 to 19. The classes begin June 9 and last five weeks. Classes are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Clubs and balls will be furnished if without. In order to attend, call 232-3654 ahead of time to let the organizers know how many to expect.

T-BALL
Instruction
n There will be a free instructional T-ball basics program for all 4-5-year-old boys and girls. Practices will be held at 10 a.m. each Saturday in June at Field No. 3 at Wutke Park in Girard. Players should bring a glove and a soft T-ball with them to practice. For more information, contact Rod Murphy at 724-6879. Parents are welcome to assist in the practices.
