Girard sends 2 to state

A solid outing from Girard golfers J.D. Heatherly and Trey Scallions earned their tickets to the Class 4A state golf meet after Monday’s Class 4A regional golf tournament at Fredonia.
Heatherly — who finished third overall with a 79 — carded a 40 on the front nine holes then battled back to shoot a 39 on the back side for his score.
For Scallions, he shot a 44 on the front side then scorched the back side with a 38 to score an overall 82 to place seventh overall and earn a berth to state.
As a team, the Trojans placed third behind regional champions Chanute and runners up Fort Scott.
Both Chanute and Fort Scott will send their entire teams to the state meet.
