PITTSBURG —

Baseball tournaments across the state were put on hold Saturday because of strong rain and thunderstorms.
Those rainouts affected several area teams.
At the Little League North Regional baseball tournament, Girard held a lead over Frontenac in the 9-10 consolation game at Arma.
According to tournament director Mario Valenzuela the game will be continued, with Girard holding an 11-3 lead, today at 3 p.m.
The 11-12 consolation game will follow between 4-5 p.m.
In Topeka, the Pittsburg 14s All-Star team was delayed by rain on Saturday due to the fact that tournament officials for the Hap Dumont State Tournament were only allowed to use one field.
Dave Gromer, head coach for Pittsburg, said that their games will resume at 9 a.m. today.
The Pittsburg 13s All-Stars were not slated to play Saturday and should resume their schedule at the Hap Dumont State Tournament today at 9 a.m. in Wichita.
In Salina, the Pittsburg 15s All-Stars played three games and went 1-2 in their Hap Dumont State Tournament before rain took its toll at the Bill Burke Sports Complex.
On Friday, Pittsburg lost to Butler County Cubs, a 16s All-Star team, 15-0. Pittsburg rebounded to knock off the Topeka Titans, 10-0.
“Our defense was a little spotty in the first game and we did not hit the ball consistently,” said Pittsburg head coach Jeff Elliott.
Saturday, the 15s lost to the Sedgwick County Braves before the rain fell.
Due to the fact that Pittsburg will host the 15s World Series and Pittsburg will receive an automatic berth, Elliott said they will await the start of the World Series.
“We went up there to throw our pitchers and get them some experience,” Elliott said. “We had several kids in football camp or have tired arms coming out of the league season so we really limited our pitching.”
The 15s World Series starts on July 26 at JayCee Ballpark, Al Ortolani Field and the Raider Sports Complex.
In Galena, the Cherokee 11-12 All-Star team had their Little League South Regional championship game with Riverton halted due to rain and will make it up today at 2 p.m. If Cherokee loses, they will play again at 4 p.m. for the consolation championship.
One team did make it on the field on Saturday.
The Cherokee 9-10 All-Stars knocked off Baxter Springs, 6-5 in the South Regional consolation game. They will move on to the state tournament next week in Baxter Springs.
