The Pittsburg Community Middle School seventh grade team split a pair of games in Independence on Thursday, while the eighth grade team fell in both games.
The Seventh grade A team won 14-12 while the B team fell 18-5.
Katy Short scored nine points — including the game-winner — and grabbed five steals while Haley Uttley grabbed nine rebounds. Marti Sinclair registered the assist to Short on the winner. Reagan Rink also helped the Purple Dragon effort by tying up for five jump balls that were awarded to Pittsburg.
In the B game, Miranda Moore scored three points and Katie Ewing scored two. Deia Davidson grabbed seven rebounds. Reagan Rink and Priscila Ruiz each registered three steals.
The eighth grade A team lost 34-16 while the B team lost 19-9.
Mercedes Vogel combined five points with three steals and Bethanne Elliott scored four points in the A game. Elliott and Samantha Garrett each registered four rebounds. In the B game, Chelsea Baker scored four points and get 10 rebounds. Nicole Stripling and Megan Webb each got a pair of steals.
Southeast sweeps Northeast
CHEROKEE — The Southeast Lancers seventh and eighth grade basketball teams swept Northeast on Thursday night in Cherokee.
The seventh grade team defeated Northeast 31-14 while the eighth grade team picked up a 39-22 win.
In the seventh grade game, Maggie Renn scored eight and Olivia Powell scored seven for the Lancers while Kaylie Bogina and Abby Pipkin each scored four. In the eighth grade game, Amy Martin and Kelcie Coltrane scored 11 apiece and Kaelyn Morris scored 12 for the Vikings.
The Lancers eighth grade team is off until Nov. 30 when they travel to St. Mary’s and the seventh grade team travels to Riverton on Monday.
Girard takes two from St. Mary’s
GIRARD — The Girard Trojans took two of three games from St. Mary’s on Thursday night in Girard.
The Panthers won the seventh grade game 31-24 as the Trojans won the eighth grade game 22-20. In the eighth grade game, Ashley Johnson scored 12 points and Audrey Bauer chipped in six points. Jordan Fleming scored seven while Makayla Pichler scored five and Brooke Main chipped in four.
In the seventh grade game, MaCahla Leslie and Morgan Herlocker each scored nine and Jayden Rusher scored six.
The Trojans won the Mixed B game 25-3, Allissa Shroeder scored eight while Taylor Redfern scored six and Alex Hughes scored four.
