Missouri Southern had five players in double-figures, led by guard Maruin Price’s 27 points and Skyler Bowlin’s 20 to get past Missouri S&T, 110-66 in the first game of the Chatters/Comfort Inn Classic Friday at John Lance Arena.
The Lions (1-1) were also the recipients of 36 turnovers by the Miners.
Both teams were virtually equal in shooting percentage as the Lions shot 51 percent from the field and the Miners (0-2) shot 46 percent.
But, it was Price and Bowlin that stole the show with their combined 47 points and eight rebounds on the night.
In addition to Price and Bowlin, the Lions had 15 points from Travis Jones, 13 from DaRell Crittendon and 10 from Keane Thomann.
Missouri Southern outscored the Miners 59-31 in the second half after only holding a 16-point lead at the break.
The Lions outrebounded the Miners 36-29, but did have 17 offensive rebounds to Missouri S&T’s nine. In addition, the Lions also went 27 of 35 from the foul line while the Miners had just 19 attempts from the charity stripe.
Bryce Foster led the Miners with 21 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field. No other S&T player recorded double-figures in scoring with Brian Gifford and Aaron Redecker next in line with just eight points each.
