The St. Mary’s-Colgan girls basketball team raced out to a big lead and never looked back in the first round of the Tony Dubray Classic at Liberal (Mo.) High School Monday afternoon.

The Panthers — who are ranked No. 5 in Class 2A — got double-digit scoring from senior Lisa Elmer and Allison McCormick to top Altoona-Midway 69-27.

McCormick got things started off for the Panthers (6-1) by scoring eight of Colgan’s first 10 points in the first quarter.

The Jets (0-8) were plagued with eight first-quarter turnovers.

Colgan went up 19-10 with just over six minutes left in the first half when Elmer drained a jumper and was fouled.

After Elmer completed the traditional 3-point play, the Panthers extended their lead to 22-10.
Colgan kicked off the second quarter on a 7-0 run.
