Gorillas open Texas tourney with 2 wins

PITTSBURG —

The No. 12 Pittsburg State volleyball team (5-1) finished the first day at the Texas Woman’s Tournament with a 3-0 wins over Texas Wesleyan (25-13, 25-9, 25-19) and Southeastern Oklahoma (25-22, 25-13,25-12) on Friday.
Senior Lindsay Quall led the Gorillas with nine kills against Texas Wesleyan. Seniors Linda Igbinigie and Kaludia Grelowska each added eight kills. Igbinigie hit .667 for the match, while fellow senior Sammie Williams had seven kills and no errors in 11 attempts to hit .636. Igbinigie, Quall and Grelowska each had three block assists as PSU outblocked Texas Wesleyan 6-1.
In the second match, the Gorillas outblocked Southeastern Oklahoma  5-1. Igbinigie led the way with four total blocks, while Grelowska added three. Junior Pamela Cartagena led the team with a double-double (12 kills, 19 digs). Seven of her 12 kills came in the first set. Williams also had a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. In addition to her blocking, Igbinigie was just one kill shy of double digits with nine.
Pitt State wraps up Texas Woman’s tournament play on Saturday with matches at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. against Cameron and Texas Woman’s.
