One thing that the Frontenac Royals wanted to do was to close out their weekend on a high note.
Tyler Randall made sure that happened.
After falling to Liberal, Mo. 10-5 earlier in the weekend, the Royals wanted to come back with a vengeance.
Randall pitched three innings and struck out 12 batters as the Royals knocked off the Frontenac Cardinals 10-3 in a run-rule game at the Raider Sports Complex.
“Before the game started I told Tyler Randall I wanted him to pitch the best game of his life,” said Royals head coach Cory Zacarello. “That’s just about one of the best games I have ever seen Tyler pitch.”
The Royals held the Cardinals to just three runs on seven hits — despite the fact that three of those hits were for doubles by Trace Baldwin, Chance Medlin and Keaton Bartlett.
Chase Turner keyed on a pair of doubles for the Royals and Brett Zacarello also hit a double in the winning effort.
Turner ended the game going 4-for-4 and scored four runs.
“Chase was quite a busy kid tonight,” said Cory Zacarello.
Randall pitched the distance for the Royals while the Cardinals threw Dylan Clark, Baldwin and Bartlett in the loss. Cardinal pitchers combined to throw five strikes and five walks on the night.
