n July 18-20 — The Girard Legion baseball team will be sponsoring a youth baseball tournament July 18-20 at Red Wutke Park in Girard. There will be separate divisions for second grade and under, third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, sixth grade and a combined division for seventh through ninth grades. Second grade and under will use a pitching machine. Entry fee for second through sixth grade will be $100 and $125 for grades seven through nine. n July 7-11 —Champion’s Athletic Running Camp for runners aged 12-18 at Southeast High School in Cherokee. Camp will be conducted by former Pittsburg State football and track and field athletes Quentin Turner and Korey Kimrey. Campers will have seven hours on the field with sprint and distance training, five hours in the classroom on faith and character building and two more hours in the classroom on racing tips, tactics and running health. n July 14-15 — Jeff Boschee Basketball Clinic at Pittsburg High School. The camp will feature Jeff Boschee, a University of Kansas basketball player from 1998-2002. Instruction will emphasize fundamentals of shooting, ball handling and defense. The clinic will be for two days and the cost will be $65 per player. n Frontenac Youth Football will be taking sign ups for third through sixth-grade tackle football and first and second grade flag football. n The Pittsburg High School wrestling team will host a wrestling camp on July 13 and Aug. 10 at the Megan Mallatt Activity Center wrestling room at Pittsburg High School. PHS wrestling coach Scott Rieck will be joined by Austin DeVoe, assistant coach at Northern Colorado, Daniel Peterson, former wrestler at Tennessee-Chatanooga and Eric Akin, former assistant coach at the University of Nebraska to teach folk style and freestyle wrestling. This camp is superior training to improve attacking footwork, jump-plant and landing, arm-swing efficiency and shot selections for attacking players. Instruction
n There will be a free instructional T-ball basics program for all 4-5-year-old boys and girls. Practices will be held at 10 a.m. each Saturday in June at Field No. 3 at Wutke Park in Girard.
