The Southeast Lancers won their fourth game of the season with a 44-30 road win Friday night over the Oswego Indians.
“A win’s a win,” Southeast head coach Clint Rider said. “We’ll take it. We started out terrible offensively. Teams are starting to just drop back on us, trying to take away the deep ball and sometimes we force it too much instead of taking what the defense gives us. We started running bubble screens and short passes to help us get back into a rhythm.”
Oswego led 16-0 at one point before Colton Charlton scored on a 8-yard touchdown run and senior quarterback Josh Thompson connected with senior wide receiver Daniel Peak on a 25-yard TD pass as time expired in the second. Rider said that Peak made a great sliding catch surrounded by three Oswego defenders. Southeast trailed 16-14 at halftime.
The Lancers and the Indians exchanged touchdowns in the second half; Southeast last trailed 24-22 and then scored back-to-back TDs to gain control of the game.
Rider said that Ryan Rakestraw played a great game for Southeast and Oswego senior quarterback Ethan Spore played great for the Indians.
“Their quarterback played out of his mind,” he said. “We didn’t see him throw the ball as well on film.”
Southeast (4-1) returns on the road next week against Erie (1-4).
