The community of Chetopa will be banding together to help out its high school football coach.
According to USD 505 Superintendent Kim Jueneman, head coach Dale Sanders was involved in an accident and suffered head trauma.
Now, the community is holding a fundraiser for Sanders at Chetopa High School at 11 p.m. Sunday.
Jueneman said that Sanders was recently released from a hospital in Joplin, Mo.
“He is making a good recovery and has been released to oversee our weight room,” Jueneman said.
While details of the accident have not been made available and Sanders has not been released from a doctor’s care, according to Jueneman, there have been no changes to the 2009 Chetopa football staff.
“Everything is the status quo until we talk with him,” Jueneman said. “We have not made any adjustments to our coaching or teaching staff.”
