Koehn, Napier continue to excel in Hays

The Fort Hays State wrestling team finished 2-1 in duals Tuesday night at the Central Missouri Duals, beating Central Missouri 31-9 and No. 10-ranked Ouachita Baptist 33-11 but losing to No. 18 Ashland 22-16.

Pittsburg native Derek Koehn (ranked No. 4 in the nation at 157 pounds) went 1-1 on the evening with a 10-0 major decision over Nolan Dilts of Ashland and a 6-1 loss to No. 5-ranked Bobby Williams of Ouachita Baptist. Koehn defeated Williams earlier in the season for the championship of the Jet Invitational, hosted by Newman.

Columbus native C.J. Napier (No. 6 at 141) won both his matches — a pin of Eric Mateo of Central Missouri and a 4-3 decision over No. 5 Josh Myers of Ouachita Baptist.

Fort Hays State improved to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in MIAA duals.

The Tigers will be in Springfield, Ill., this Saturday and Sunday for the NWCA National Duals. Their first opponent will be No. 2 Newberry College (S.C.) at 11 a.m.

Other schools in the bracket include Nebraska-Kearney, Wisconsin-Parkside, Minnesota State, Findlay, Upper Iowa, Kutztown, UNC-Pembroke, St. Cloud State, Central Oklahoma, Minot State, Limestone, Grand Canyon, Notre Dame (Ohio) and Augustana.
