The Pitt State men's and women's indoor track & field teams wrapped up a busy weekend of competition Saturday.

A handful of athletes competed at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational at Lincoln, Neb., while the vast majority of Gorillas took part in the two-day MSSU Lion Invitational at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

At the Husker Invite, Emily Ballock earned a provisional qualifying mark toward nationals with a third place effort of 2 minutes, 14.11 seconds in the women's 800 meters. Adam Volkert also placed sixth in men's 5,000 meters (14:51.62), while Jordan Peters (1:57.35) and James Carter III (1:57.50) finished seventh and 12th, respectively, in the men's 800m.

At Joplin, Jeff Piepenbrink's second-place showing in the heptathlon highlighted the men's performances. Piepenbrink utilized victories in the pole vault and shot put and a second-place showing in the 60m to compile 4,788 points in the multi-events.

Ryan Ramler placed second in the 600 yard run in 1:47.70 and third in the 60m hurdles (8.39), while Talon Thompson (15:46.96) and Ethan Silovsky (15:51.61) placed third and fourth in the 5,000 meters. Wyatt Slaven also finished third in the 400m (51.73).

Steven Mann earned a PQ in the long jump (23-1.25) and Marquise Cushon secured a PQ in the triple jump (47-5). Both athletes placed fourth overall in their disciplines. Luke Wilson added a second-place effort in the weight throw (54-8.25), while John Talbert finished fourth in the event (52-10.75).

For the women, Hannah DeVries raced to victory in the 5,000m in 18:23.02. Amanda Callaway finished second in the mile run (5:13.00), while Casey Epps (5:14.66) and Bridgette McCormick (5:21.08) placed third and fourth, respectively. Rame Grayson also placed third in the 60m (7.82).

Jennifer Reichenberger and Ashley Baier placed second and fourth in the pentathlon.
Reichenberger benefited from victories in the 60m hurdles and shot put and a second-place showing in the 800m to tally 2,861 points, while Baier compiled 2,548 points on the strength of a second-place effort in the 60m hurdles and a third-place finish in the shot put.

The 1,600m relay of Lauren Ouderkirk, Hillary Dickey, Whitney Southard and Grayson placed third in 4:04.80.

The Pitt State squads will return to action next Saturday when the Gorillas travel to Norman, Okla., to compete in the OBU Invitational hosted on the University of Oklahoma campus.
