FOOTBALL
Camps
n Frontenac Youth Football will be taking sign ups for the 2008 Skills and Drills Mini-Camp for football players in first through sixth grades. Any player in the Southeast Athletic Conference (Arma, Fort Scott, Frontenac and Girard) may participate in this fundamental non-contact camp. Cost is $20 per player and includes a T-shirt. Early registration is suggested. Camp dates are Aug. 4-6 from 6-7:30 p.m. each day at the Frontenac Sports Complex. Sign ups will be taken Saturday Aug. 2 at the Frontenac Town Hall, 200 E. McKay. n Aug. 16 — A clinic for all flag and tackle football participants at the Pittsburg YMCA will be held on Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. at the PSU practice field and will be conducted by PSU coaches and players. For further information, contact Sara Mitchell at the Pittsburg Family YMCA.
n Sept. 13 — The Pittsburg YMCA will begin an instructional football program for ages 4 and 5 on Sept. 13. The program will give instruction on pulling flags, blocking, hand-offs, positions, and good sportsmanship. There will be four games on Saturdays and there are no practices. Only 60 participants will be accepted. Those interested should sign up at the YMCA no later than Aug. 25.
SOCCER
League
n The Pittsburg Family YMCA will have a fall soccer league for boys and girls in grades 1-6. There will be two leagues, one for 1-3 grades and one for 4-6 grades. There will be six games played beginning Sept. 6. Both leagues will be eight on eight, and the 1-3 grade league will be on a smaller field. Those interested should be signed up before Aug. 18. n The Pittsburg Family YMCA will begin an indoor soccer program on Sept. 13. The program is for boys and girls 4- and 5- years of age. Games will be played on Saturday mornings at the YMCA. The first Saturday will include an introductory clinic to go over basic skills and to review the rules of indoor soccer. Only 30 participants will be accepted. Those interested should sign up at the YMCA by Sept. 3.

Tournaments

WRESTLING
Camps
n The Pittsburg High School wrestling team will host a wrestling camp on Aug. 10 at the Megan Mallatt Activity Center wrestling room at Pittsburg High School. PHS wrestling coach Scott Rieck will be joined by Austin DeVoe, assistant coach at Northern Colorado, Daniel Peterson, former wrestler at Tennessee-Chatanooga and Eric Akin, former assistant coach at the University of Nebraska to teach folk style and freestyle wrestling. n Aug. 23 — Pittsburg Elks Lodge No. 412 Annual Fall Golf Classic. A 3-person scramble held at Countryside Golf Course beginning at 8 a.m.. Lessons
n The Elks and Countryside Golf Course are offering free lessons and training to students in Crawford County age 11 to 19. The classes begin June 9 and last five weeks. Classes are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Clubs and balls will be furnished if without. In order to attend, call 232-3654 ahead of time to let the organizers know how many to expect.
VOLLEYBALL
Camp
n July 16-19 — Pittsburg State University camp for Advanced High School Team Training. This camp is for individualized team technical training and competitive opportunities for 10 varsity and 10 junior varsity teams only. Fees are $180 for commuters and $210 for residential campers. T-BALL
Instruction
n There will be a free instructional T-ball basics program for all 4-5-year-old boys and girls. Practices will be held at 10 a.m. each Saturday in June at Field No. 3 at Wutke Park in Girard.
