During the Pittsburg State Gorilla's weekly pre-game press conference on Thursday, head coach Chuck Broyles said that he is not going anywhere.
When asked about his future with the program during the press conference, Broyles responded with:
"I'm the football coach and the athletic director and I'll continue to be."
The Gorillas are 5-5 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA as they head to Kirksville, Mo. for their final game of the season against Truman (1-9, 0-8).
"We need to win this game," Broyles said. "Then we can say ‘Chuck Broyles head coach at Pittsburg State University, 20 years and never had a losing season.’"
Currently, Broyles is the second-winningest active NCAA Division II head coach, by percentage, and the fourth-active among all NCAA schools.
Through this season, Broyles has led Pitt State to a 198-46-2 record since 1990. He is also the winningest head coach in MIAA history as well as in Pitt State history. His 198 victories are 82 more than Carnie Smith (116-52-6) and 145 more than Dennis Franchione (53-6-0).
He is second to Northwest Missouri State’s head coach Mel Tjeerdsma in MIAA titles. Tjeerdsma has 11 league championships, while Broyles has nine.
