Mercedes Vogel and Samantha Garrett each had seven points to lead the Pittsburg Community Middle School 8A girls basketball team to a 24-16 win over Parsons Thursday at PCMS.
Bethanne Elliott added six points. Elliott and Garrett each picked up eight rebounds while Brooke Mendez, Vogel, Garrett and Elliott each had five steals and Nicole Striplin added four in the win.
Katie Short poured in 14 points and added seven steals and three assists to lead the Dragon 7A team to a 28-18 win over Parsons.
Haley Uttley had six points and seven rebounds while Marti Sinclair had eight points and six rebounds.
In the 8B game, Chelsea Baker led the Dragons with seven points and five rebounds while Emily Baden had seven rebounds in PCMS’ 24-16 win.
Striplin and Megan Webb added seven steals in the victory.
The Dragons will host Independence at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Girard sweeps Vikings
ARMA — The Girard Middle School girls basketball team swept a pair of games from Northeast on Thursday night.
Carly Heatherly and Hannah Jones each scored eight points to lead the Trojans to a 34-9 win in the 8A game. Northeast was led by Morgan Maransani’s five points.
In the 7A game, Jaden Rusher and Morgan Herlocker each had six points as Girard defeated the Vikings 22-11.
Kaylee Bogina led Northeast with seven points and Brooklyn Wyland had four.
The Vikings will travel to Riverton for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Monday.

Frontenac takes care of Riverton
RIVERTON — The Frontenac Junior High girls 7A and 7B basketball teams swept a pair of games in Riverton on Thursday.
Macie Broyles led the Raiders with 10 points in a 31-11 win in the 7A game. Tabor Spurling and Allyn Murray each had eight points and Taylor Smith added five.
Riverton got four points each from Kara Haunsen and Kayli Rollins and three from Mallor Hull.
In the 7B game, Spurling led the Raiders with four points in a 12-10 win.
Emma Baima, Maggie Evans and Smith each had two points and Logan Mapes along with Murray each had one point.
The Raiders will head to St. Mary’s to face the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
