Things were somewhat comfortable for the Frontenac Raider softball team in their Class 3A regional semifinal with Southeast on Tuesday.
That was until the seventh inning.
The Raiders squandered a 3-1 lead but battled back to knock the Lancers out of the tournament 4-3 in eight innings to advance to the Class 3A regional tournament championship against Riverton.
That game was called in the third inning because of severe weather in Crawford County.
Frontenac head coach Cassie Buche said that the game would be made up on Thursday with an exact time to be determined.
Heading into the seventh against Southeast, the Raiders were in control 3-1 until Southeast came back and leveled the game with two runs in the top of the inning.
Frontenac had an opportunity to score the winning run in the bottom of the inning but failed to do so.
“We were just too aggressive on the bases,” said Buche.
They would have to wait until the bottom of the eighth.
After pitcher Emily Barto held Southeast scoreless in the top half of the extra frame, Frontenac was able to score the winning run to advance to meet Riverton in the championship.
