POOL

Tournaments


• Weekly tournaments at Weir American Legion Post 272. Entry fee $5 with 100 percent payback. Play begins at 1 p.m. on Sundays. Contact 396-8400.

• Tournaments at SunDowner Sports Bar & Grill, south edge of Girard, on the first and third Saturday of each month, starting at 8 p.m. Entry fee: $10. Call 724-6204 or 724-4113.

• Tourmanents at Idle-A-While in Cherokee each Wednesday at 8 p.m. Entry fee is $5 with all fees going to winners. First-, second- and third-place all pay.

WRESTLING

Camps


• The Pittsburg High School wrestling team will host a wrestling camp on June 22, July 13 and Aug. 10 at the Megan Mallatt Activity Center wrestling room at Pittsburg High School. PHS wrestling coach Scott Rieck will be joined by Austin DeVoe, assistant coach at Northern Colorado, Daniel Peterson, former wrestler at Tennessee-Chatanooga and Eric Akin, former assistant coach at the University of Nebraska to teach folk style and freestyle wrestling. Camp runs from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. and the cost to participate is $5 per session. Contact Rieck at 704-1969 or srieck@usd250.org.

GOLF

Tournaments


• June 28 — 2008 KIDS FIRST 4-person scramble. The Frontenac United Methodist Church will host this 4-person scramble at the Girard Golf Course. Prize money will be available for four places in three flights. Tee times are 7 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Cost is $30 per player plus cart. For more information, call 230-0248 or 231-4994.

• June 29 — Quail Unlimited 4-Man Scramble at Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin. Tee times begin at 12:30 p.m.. Green fee is $45 and includes a cart and lunch. GGA members fee is $35. For more information, contact Randy Haas at 417-529-1533, Bryan Cox at 202-4732 or David Clarkson at 202-0952.
Lessons

• The Elks and Countryside Golf Course are offering free lessons and training to students in Crawford County age 11 to 19. The classes begin June 9 and last five weeks. Classes are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Clubs and balls will be furnished if without. In order to attend, call 232-3654 ahead of time to let the organizers know how many to expect.

VOLLEYBALL

Camp


• The Pittsburg High School volleyball camp will be from June 23-26 at Pittsburg High School. It is for girls in grades 5-12 and the cost is $25 per player. For more information, contact PHS head coach Mary Packard at 231-1322.

• June 25-26 — Pittsburg State University Mini-Volley School for 2nd-4th Graders. This camp will introduce the game to beginners using a lighter ball and training approach geared for this age group. Fee is $95 for commuters only. For more information, contact coach Ibraheem Suberu at 235-4674.

• July 10-12 — Pittsburg State University camp for Technique and Form Training (Attackers and Setters). This camp is superior training to improve attacking footwork, jump-plant and landing, arm-swing efficiency and shot selections for attacking players. Fees are $175 for commuters and $200 for residential campers. For more information, contact coach Ibraheem Suberu at 235-4674.

• July 16-19 — Pittsburg State University camp for Advanced High School Team Training. This camp is for individualized team technical training and competitive opportunities for 10 varsity and 10 junior varsity teams only. Fees are $180 for commuters and $210 for residential campers. T-BALL

Instruction


• There will be a free instructional T-ball basics program for all 4-5-year-old boys and girls. Practices will be held at 10 a.m. each Saturday in June at Field No. 3 at Wutke Park in Girard. Players should bring a glove and a soft T-ball with them to practice. For more information, contact Rod Murphy at 724-6879. Parents are welcome to assist in the practices.

ETC.

• 67th Annual Heart of America PRCA Championship Rodeo at Miami, Okla. June 27-28. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children. Children 12 and under will get in free Friday night with each adult paid admission. For more information, call 918-542-4481.
