A place for community conversations

Posted

When we, a group of local businesspeople, decided to purchase the Morning Sun in the summer of 2021, we knew this wasn’t going to be an easy journey, but one that is worthwhile for our community to bring back local news written by local writers because we believe communities still need reliable local newspapers.

We walked into this business when the media landscape was changing, the corporate culture gobbling up small town businesses (including newspapers), the very noisy and rhetorical political landscape, we were coming out of  the pandemic which had  delivered a critical gut-punch to the whole economy, including national circulation of newspapers.

We were bound to have some bumps along the way as we try to put this community newspaper back to being the essential local information lifeline for local news.   We have recently made  a course correction and parted ways with our publisher. One of our owners, Justin Crain, has stepped in as Interim General Manager. He is leading the day-to-day operations as we are re-focusing and sharpening our efforts  in order to be a place for community conversations to begin and be heard; and a place for local businesses to advertise their goods and services leading to local sales and keeping shopping dollars in our communities.

Daily we hear and see on social media the comments both positive and constructive concerns which we appreciate, but comments are not going to keep the Morning Sun viable.  There is a role for you in this story of success and survival.

Small businesses are growing faster than ever in our region, let’s give them a platform to advertise and support each other.  Subscribe to the Morning Sun, it’s available in print or digital or both.  Digital subscriptions are $10.89 a month and you can have access to local news anytime, anywhere.  Print subscriptions are $16.36 a month.   Local news produced by local journalists is the most credible information available. The Morning Sun has been around for over 100 years, we want to continue the legacy and credibility documenting history in the making to the stories and advertisements published in the newspaper both in print and online. We invite you to advertise and subscribe to the Morning Sun, we believe it’s one of the best ways to contribute to the vibrancy of our community.
