PITTSBURG, Kan. — On Tuesday, 45-year-old Collin Pal Gepford, of Arma, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of First-Degree Murder, according to the Crawford County Attorney’s Office.
Gepford was convicted by a jury of First-Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, Criminal Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Possession of a Firearm on March 28. He will not be eligible for post release supervision until he has served 653 months, or a little over 54 years for attempted murder in the first degree.
Additionally, he was sentenced for 61 months for felony discharge of a firearm, 13 months for aggravated assault and 9 months for criminal possession of a firearm. The Court ordered the sentences to run consecutive to one another. He was also ordered to register as a violent offender for life.
The crime for which Gepford was convicted and sentenced took place on February 17, 2023, on Main Street in Pittsburg. After receiving a call of shots fired in the area, Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, Pittsburg Police Department, and the Kansas Highway Patrol arrived on scene where they found David Mays deceased with a gunshot wound to his chest. Gepford was on scene and was taken into custody.
Through the investigation, it was ascertained, that Gepford, Travis Conness and David Mays had lured a male to the scene. Gepford fired into the man’s vehicle. The man fled on foot and Gepford fired at him as ran from the scene. KHP K9 Apollo located both firearms used in this incident.
