Danny Joseph Giefer, 76, Emporia, Kansas, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
Danny was born April 12, 1948, in Parsons, Kansas, the son of Fred and Marjorie (Bond) Giefer. He married Betty Polchlopek in Girard, Kansas on June 13, 1970. She survives. He is also survived by son, Jeffrey Alan (Mandy Leigh) Giefer, Emporia, Kansas; daughter, Kacey Lynn (Dallas) Schick, Emporia, Kansas; brothers, David Giefer, Girard, Kansas, Ken (Cheryl) Giefer, Girard, Kansas, Robert (Sharon) Giefer, Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister, Nancy (Richard) Roark, Joplin, Missouri; grandchildren, Kennedy, Karter, Tenley Schick, and Arrington & Leighton Giefer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Giefer was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Emporia. He and Betty came to Emporia in 1970. He entered his career as an electrician at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation. By the time he was sworn into the Emporia City Commission in 2013, he owned and operated three car washes, a storage business, and residential and commercial properties. During his time on the Emporia City Commission, Danny served as Mayor and Vice-Mayor. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Midwest Carwash Association.
The Rosary will be recited Friday, July 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Emporia. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 that afternoon at the church. The services will be celebrated by Father Nicholas Ashmore. Cremation will follow later.
The family will receive friends at the Little Theater of the William Lindsey White Auditorium on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Memorials have been established with the Emporia Friends of the Zoo of Hand-In-Hand Hospice with contributions sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 666801, which is assisting with arrangements.
