GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Shedeur Sanders’ wait finally has ended. The Cleveland Browns selected the Colorado quarterback and son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders in the fifth round with the 144th overall pick in the NFL draft. That ended a stunning fall for Sanders, the most recognizable player in this draft class after his attention-getting college career. Draft forecasts generally rated Sanders behind only Miami’s Cam Ward — who went first overall to the Tennessee Titans — among quarterbacks in this class. Five quarterbacks were taken before him instead, with one of them going to Cleveland when the Browns picked Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel in the third round.
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens have drafted kicker Tyler Loop of Arizona in the sixth round of the NFL draft amid uncertainty about five-time All-Pro Justin Tucker’s future. The Baltimore Banner has reported that over a dozen massage therapists have accused Tucker of inappropriate sexual behavior. The NFL has said it would investigate. Tucker has maintained he did not act inappropriately while receiving professional bodywork treatment. By using a draft pick on a kicker, the Ravens may be signaling some doubt as to whether Tucker will be with the team much longer.
WACO, Texas (AP) — A former Baylor athletic official has received a show-cause penalty from the NCAA after he placed nearly 3,000 impermissible daily fantasy bets on professional and college games over a five-year period. Those included 113 involving Baylor teams and student-athletes. The NCAA says Sam Hancock, a former director of resource development at Baylor, placed 2,950 impermissible bets totaling $45,979 on three different sports betting platforms from July 2019 through September 2024. He acknowledged that he engaged in sports betting before his employment at Baylor and continued to do so after being hired, despite receiving rules education from the school and knowing that his conduct violated NCAA rules.
