HUMBOLDT, Kan. — On Monday, The Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced the discovery of unidentified human remains found outside of Humboldt.
The KBI and the Allen County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a death investigation after remains were found Saturday evening near Humboldt.
At around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18, a man who was searching for antler sheds called 911 when he discovered what he believed were human remains. Deputies from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area, east of Humboldt, near Arizona Road and 1800th Street. Upon arrival they found human skeletal remains.
Soon after, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance with the investigation. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team (CSRT) responded to the scene.
The person has not yet been identified. Positive identification may take longer than typical cases due to the condition of the remains, according to the KBI.
Death investigations may be determined to be the result of homicide, suicide, natural causes, or an accident, and no threat to the public exists related to this incident, the KBI stated.
An autopsy is scheduled, and the investigation is ongoing.
